the existential threat of AI is not skynet; the existential threat of AI is the Game of Thrones dragons, whose need for resources is so insatiable and their grip on power so inextricable that no technological progress happens for centuries

#startrekstarfleetacademy S01E02 -- what the hell is this "betazoids are empaths" bs? i understand the writers wanting a scene where a deaf diplomat is communicating w the Federation but the last species you want for that is a telepath. all the handwaving by fans of this retcon is annoying.
