the implementation of the stricter laws has been administratively problematic, but the legislation itself seems reasonably comprehensive

only ~4% of us own guns and 'concealed carry' is illegal - the only ppl carrying guns are cops, and ofc criminals
my point being we (thankfully) don't think having a gun ourselves is "necessary" to fight back

as an Australian my experience is that many ppl in the US fail to comprehend how incredibly rare mass shootings actually are here, fewer still know why our strict gun control laws were enacted in the first place
and until today's horrific loss of 12 lives it was the ONLY mass shooting with double digit deaths for almost 30 yrs
gun control works!

but you're responding to posts about an Australian mass shooting so it's important to note that most cops here, whilst far from ideal in many aspects, are quite different to US cops
the cops at Bondi didn't wait for the shooters to finish and some were shot when apprehending the gunmen

strict gun control laws were enacted here in Australia after 1996's Port Arthur massacre which, with 35 deaths, remains our worst modern day mass shooting
and until today's awful loss of 12 lives at Bondi Beach it was the ONLY mass shooting with double digit deaths in 30 years

30 years later that anti-gun sentiment remains steadfast: the overwhelming majority of Australians have never even held a gun, let alone know how (or want) to fire one
we are not like you

if you watch the video closely it shows that after being disarmed, gunman 1 crossed the short distance back up to the bridge that gunman 2 was firing from, whereupon gunman 1 picked up another rifle and recommenced shooting

as an Australian: the unarmed man's actions were incredibly brave but also unsurprising
