I came here because Twitter sucks, stayed because it's fun. Well, most of the time.

It was a really bad weekend for his ilk. I'm thanking my lucky stars his attempts to distract are JUST more of this tarrif shit.

My moms friends husband served in WWII. He sat me down when I was very young and told me stories about what he saw during the war and having to clean up the mass graves of Jews after the war was done. He had pictures. I'll never forget that.

It's like with all the gerrymandering they've done in Texas. They thought winning an election by 1.5% was ushering in a 1000 year empire. Now, they've gerrymandered a bunch of safe seats away to try and steal other ones and now because of their unpopularity it's all up for grabs. Oops.

Trump 1.0 was a shock to everyone, including Trump. He never thought he'd win and nobody else did so when it happened the party had to step in and fill the positions. This time Trump knew he could win and actually filled those positions with his yes men and psychos.

It's a good sign IMO. This is mid-sized city and they are having to pull every body they have to try and tamp this down. They are stretched to their breaking point. They think they can take LA or Philly or anywhere bigger and with a less polite citizenry? Good luck.

2mg of lorazepam coursing through me and still here. Damn drugs, work dammit.
January 25, 2026 at 9:15 AM
Feel like there is a lot of that going around today.

lol

You'd think if any one would it would be us Canadians. I live in Winnipeg. To get to a city of comparable size I'd have to drive for 13 hours straight.

Mamdani is already the shot across the bow. I except a bunch more like him popping up all over the place.

Yeah, my doctor use the voice to text note taking even before AI became the norm. So, it's not like it's even needed for that.
January 5, 2026 at 9:24 PM
Even just taken as a marketing thing, it's long and incredibly awkward and hides that fact that this is suite of office software. Just an absolute uninformative mouthful. We're at the deep desperation stage of the AI bubble.

I think Trump is at the point where he's half in and half out of it at all times and he's just spewing stream of consciousness thoughts. He always did that but he seems to have lost all ability to filter out any of it anymore.

I think his brain is so ravaged by dementia and whatever medicine they are using to keep it at bay that he ping pong between barely being able to stay awake and having manic episodes.
January 5, 2026 at 6:55 AM
I think he's deep into dementia at this point. They can shoot him full of enough of whatever they need to get him to mostly speak in front of a camera but even then he's passing out by the end of most press conferences. It's all just naps and manic episodes now.
January 5, 2026 at 6:50 AM
I don't think there was any plan beyond them wanting there own Obama in the situation room moment photo op. I don't think they thought one second beyond the snatch and grab. What happens now? Who fricken knows. It's going to be an absolute mess.

I was in Sask a few years ago and there was a FIELD of rusting and rotting pipeline. I asked what that was about and it was being built in preparation of a pipeline that didn't get approved. Millions spent on nothing because they were so certain they'd get what they wanted. Whoops.

The scale of money being spent is insane. The entire face of silicon valley will be changed when this is through. The tech industry won't look the same and the next "next big thing" isn't going to be something like this.
January 13, 2025 at 2:47 AM
The scale of this one is vastly different than any of the failed ones mentioned by the OP. We're talking billions upon billions industry wide being dumped into this. When it doesn't pan out it's going to be the equivalent to the 2008 financial crash for the tech sector. It's going to devastate them.
January 13, 2025 at 2:44 AM
Which probably isn't all that different than what it looked like 10-15 years ago. It's kind of amazing.
January 13, 2025 at 2:40 AM
Kind of the shitty part of all this. Machine learning is very useful in many contexts but because they are pushing this nonsense so hard for a use case where it's not, the whole concept is being dragged through the mud and people aren't going to bother separating the good from the bad when it's over
January 13, 2025 at 2:38 AM
They really are just doing the right wing myth of being drug dealers giving you the free hit to get you hooked. Eventually they'll have to monetize this enmasse if there is any hope of some returns for them. My guess is people just move on, this shit is only novel while it's free.
January 13, 2025 at 2:36 AM
Yeah, Clinton never really was that popular. Won with only 43% of the vote in 92' in one of the only genuine 3 way races in recent US history. Couldn't crack 50% in 96' either.
January 12, 2025 at 8:34 AM
Which tends to make them so powerful as to be basically unaccountable in most major cities. Threaten to not raise police funding year over year? Threaten consequences? It gets real "it'd be a shame if something happened to the mayors family" real quick. Literally what they did to DeBlasio in 2020.
