Yeah the story is kinda odd. They worshipped this "figure" (might've been a woman?) that was wrapped in a lot of bandages and cloth it's a very strange story.

There are cults that are highly publicized that everybody has heard of (Heaven's Gate, Jonestown, etc.), but there are a lot of cults and many of them start in churches.

I can see why people from a lot of different backgrounds (women, LGBT folk, etc.) might be insular when it comes to their hobbies online. You put one post out there and folks pour in like cockroaches.
