I don't know why I'm suddenly getting blocked by writers but if this many people are offended at the idea of romance accommodating unhappy endings that might answer the OP on why dark romance is becoming just violent people having fun sex with no complex feelings or accountability.

It's definitely a tragedy but works of art don't have to exist in one category in isolation do they? I think of Romance as the genre that deals with romantic relationships.

I don't know what HEA stands for, but as Sting tells it, "It sounds like a comforting love song. I didn't realise at the time how sinister it is. I think I was thinking of Big Brother, surveillance and control." It was about a stalker, but told through the stalker's perspective to imitate romance.

And there were clues that things were changing. Computers turned into cell phones right before their eyes. 9/11 happened live on TV. They still wanted to believe that what they knew about the world would matter by the time I got there.

Going through school after surviving a horrific foster home and the loss of multiple families was such a head trip, because here were all these adults acting like the world would just stay like it was forever. How could they not feel it in their bones that they were building over shifting sand?
