The simplest and most benign of tests done inappropriately can cause harm or death. That’s why screening programs need to be based on data, not feelings. I’m in a high risk group for Ca prostate. I want a screening test that is more likely to help than hurt me.

The risk is not that the biopsy is benign, the risk is the unnecessary biopsy or test does harm. Such as bowel perforation and sepsis which I have seen in ICU. All tests carry risk? Either from the test itself or from the diagnostic pathway that it follows.

Health outcomes in women are consistently poorer than men. So no it’s not because it’s some sort of discrimination of men. PSA is a crap test. New screening study on PSA combined with MRI in the NHS starting soon.

All tests have false positives and false negatives, without fail. The difference between tests is the balance of false positive and negative in a particular context. PSA has particular poor test characteristics, can’t differentiate between BPH and cancer with an extremely high BPH incidence.

I think their current appearance is emblematic of and the UK’s current status. False dichotomy, rose tinted glasses of something that never was, nationalistic flag shagging pride, sharply followed by reality of what the country has actually become.

My ICU and hospital last night was run by an “island of strangers” with “golden tickets” while the resident Drs were on strike. The shift must of been 60-70% black or brown staff. Mean while, natives shag flags on lamp posts.

Dads an economic migrant, came as a child from Jamaica. His children/grandchildren work in the NHS prison service, learning disabilities education and biological sciences. That’s just the beginning. It seems that many immigrants were the UKs golden ticket when it was the economic sick man of Europe.

Hundreds of years of empire & “good it brings”. A reflection of the statue’s we leave standing, the “hero’s we celebrate”. So much cultural machinery that inevitably leads to this. Right down to the history the population wants to ignore. So many hate looking in the mirror and seeing the reflection.
