Happy New Year! May 2026 be the year that all your dreams come true!

And may you be as happy as this fairy penguin is with his fairy cake

Your regular reminder that Sussan Ley is an empty-headed baying gorgon and an inflammatory idiot with the morals and political acumen of groin fungus.

It is a scorcher here today so where does my cat decide to sit? On me… I am melting…
For once I wish she was rolling around in my wet paint

These quirky characters will be making their way on to my website over the weekend. Sign up to my newsletter (link in bio) to find out when.

The only downside to having wings is when you want to dunk your iced vovo in the tea you are holding… and no pockets means you have to store your biccy (bikkie? bickie?) for later in your crest

Oh dear, what started as a bit of practice painting quirky characters is getting out of hand… I suddenly want to paint ALL the Australian animals drinking tea now…
Still undecided whether they need pretty backgrounds or to just let them be…

Last two pieces of the puzzle…
I have four of these Precious Precarious Porcelain paintings heading to a women and birds exhibition at the Mudgee Arts Precinct in December

Work in progress…
This is by far my most over the top painting and it isn’t finished yet (although I am running out of room)
A pack of pretty pardalotes perched on precariously placed precious porcelain

And the Birdlife Bird of the Year winner is…

Tawny Frogmouth

About time in my opinion, although in my portrait of him he looks shocked that she has been chosen… she probably didn’t even write a speech or anything

Would you call this dapper fellow a bush turkey, a scrub turkey or a brush turkey?
I always thought they were bush turkeys…
Is it a geographical thing like the potato scallop/cake controversy?

Given that my little avatar is a spotted pardalote there is only one clear winner in my book!
Go the pardalote!

I’ve never painted a Tasmanian devil before so I am having a practice run by painting one drinking tea…
Loooong way to go, but it is a fun challenge.
Next one I paint will be eating cake but I can’t decide if it is devil’s food cake or angel food cake

Every now and then I paint a character who speaks to me (they all do in their own ways, but some more than others). I know that it will be a challenge to let them go when the time comes… this little unfinished possum is one of those characters
