I had some leftover hamburger buns & found a great use for them in this delicious & easy recipe: Grandma's Easy Apple Brown Betty. It looks rustic, but it was so good served warm, with ice cream! Notes: I didn't use nutmeg or allspice.

I've been dying to make bread all summer, & today it was "only" 87º, so I jumped on it. However, when the kitchen reached 90º with the AC running, I had second thoughts! Despite that, I made sourdough dinner rolls, cinnamon bread & some ugly but tasty tortillas - 1st time.

🌱 I harvested a big purple bell pepper today - it was red for a few days and then it turned purple over night. I think the color is beautiful!

Strawberry Poke Cake: I needed to use up some homegrown strawberries, so I made a strawberry poke cake with white cake, strawberry glaze, and sliced fresh strawberries. It's in an aluminum pan because we are taking it on vacation tomorrow.

My webcam caught this young Red Tailed Hawk just as it realized that my picture window was only *reflecting* the sky, but was actually a big window, & then it crashed into it. Yes, the hawk was fine, & yes, this window has decals on it to warn birds off, but this is a young hawk.

🌱 My first cuke of the season! It had a head-start because we wrapped & over-wintered the cucumbers this year, so they started producing much earlier than usual. This one is about 8 in. long & it will become part of a garden salad along with homegrown peppers & tomatoes, tonight. #vegetablegarden

Garden Pasta Sauce: Today, I used up the last of my garden produce in the freezer from last fall, to make a double batch of pasta sauce. From my garden: basil, celery, parsley, spinach, peppers & tomatoes. Plus onions, & garlic. We had it with raviolis for dinner.

🌱 Tomatoes! Here in Northern California, we picked our first tomatoes today. The 2 little ones are black cherry tomatoes, plus 2 yellow tomatoes and a red tomato. The strawberries are still going strong, too.

Skillet Keto Pizza: My Keto Son is here this weekend, so I experimented & made a Keto pizza for him. I used a Lg. Keto tortilla for the "crust," & made a meaty pizza sauce. I didn't want to heat up the oven today (93º) so I did it all in a skillet - see notes in ALT text.

Today, I trimmed the worst of the worm damaged foliage off my tomatoes, & put net bags around the fruit. This is an effective, organic method to stop most pests. Last year, garden lizards were eating my tomatoes, & I discovered the bags. I only have 6 plants, so it's doable.

🌱 Vegetable Gardening: After I've being gone for 2.5 weeks, the garden has grown a lot, but I also have aphids, and worms in my tomatoes! Tomorrow they DIE! 😡

🌱 I picked another 2.5 Gal. bag of mixed lettuce, basil, spinach & cilantro today. The herbs are delicious in salads too. The cilantro is going to seed, so I harvested all of it, and I will chop it and freeze it in small amounts. The basil will keep going strong all summer - super hardy!
