Found this beauty in our garden today on a sagebrush and I hope they aren’t too lost or off course! Go little monarch, go!

If we still weren’t renovating our one bathroom, I would never have been in an outdoor shower in November to see the aurora borealis from our house in Reno.

All the more reason to continue wearing my "only you can prevent fascism" Smokey Bear shirt to the gym for lifting weights :)

I mean, not so very long ago, there was this liberal woman who literally “had a plan for that”.

It’s giving Mr Mackey.

I assume that folks have seen the trash on the USDA website? I long for the days of objectivity on federal and state information sources.

Anyway, huzzah for another glorious field day!

Turns out that planted Jeffrey pine seedlings in the eastern Sierra have higher survival under shrubs than in the open.

Most foresters will tell you that shrubs are detrimental, but most of that data come from more productive, western slope sites where shrubs get much bigger 🤔

One of our chickens died. ☹️

RIP Grinds. I hope you are always first to the mealworms in chicken heaven.

Another great sign that i found looking at all of the protest pictures from yesterday:

This part. Feds work for no pay while the House does nothing for pay. Disgraceful.

My 82 year old mom got out to protest today!

“We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected,” Vought said in a video revealed by ProPublica and the research group Documented in October. “When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work”

We found this tree round that had interpretive material added to its rings to mark both colonial and tribal history. It was super interesting and also probably “too DEI/woke” for the current administration, so not telling where it is.

What is up with this fungi. It looks like an Orange Julius curdled.

Office For The Day ❤️. I recommend all Feds to get out in the woods, even if burned over (there’s pine seedlings though!) and even if you are not in land management.

Frost is coming, so ready or not I grabbed a bowl of green tomatoes (there’s so many more on the vine 😭) and the butternuts.

Timeline cleanse. Fall hiking on the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Thatʻs really interesting to think about. Birds love to eat (and disperse) mamaki (Pipturus albidus) in Hawaiʻi, though I could never figure out why. As far as I can tell, it is completely devoid of any flavor 😆
