Wasn't too bad given the clear sky: 4 Decembers, 2 Mottled Umbers (dark and typical forms), 2 LBAMs and an unexpected Dark Sword-grass. #TeamMoth

Well the trap is on and it’s 13C outside - though the moon has put in an appearance. One December and an LBAM so far so no lurking Irish entertainers this time. #TeamMoth

well, there are winter gnats flying and it is 7C so is it worth trying the MV tonight I wonder. #TeamMoth

Calocera viscosa or Yellow Stagshorn, growing on timber used as a step riser in Trentham Woods.

This is Yellow Disco Bisporella citrina on dead oak at Trentham.

Always wanted to see a slime mould. We used to have a local vicar talk about them at our natural history soc. @pilning.bsky.social may remember him. A fascinating group of organisms. This is Trichia decipiens or Salmon's Eggs on dead oak at Trentham.

A new fungus for me; Purple Jellydisc. It was growing on a rotting Birch stump at Trentham.

Sent old Tel packing; 4 species inc. 2 Decembers, Grey Shoulder-knot, Satellite and Acleris variegana. #TeamMoth

well the trap is on but not sure why. Even the two flies on the window have gone. I sense old Tel creeping up on me. #TeamMoth

Just for @marburybirds.bsky.social . One for you Debbie! Yellow on yellow.

Dunnock enjoying the late sunshine.

Still a few caddis on the wing. A pair of mating Chaetopteryx villosa locally SJ93. The overexposed flash shot does show the distinctive stiff wing bristles arising from a "pimple-like" base.

5 species in VC39 but they included another White-point and a very late Vine’s Rustic #TeamMoth
November 6, 2025 at 9:34 AM
My White-point from 2 days ago. Just for confirmation @vc39moths.bsky.social 😀 #TeamMoth

You know the feeling, Tel’s looking over your shoulder and you’ve reached your last egg carton. But wait there’s an Angle Shades - phew, close shave! So I lift the tray out and a noctuid falls to the floor - it’s only a White-point; my second ever record. Well pleased to say the least. #TeamMoth

Never expected to find something feeding on Himalayn Balsam but here is the mine of the Agromyzid fly Phytoliriomyza melampyga at Crown Meadow, Stone.
November 2, 2025 at 1:38 PM
of 7 species last night only 2 were in the trap - Silver Y and December Moth. Had a late Blastobasis lacticolella. #TeamMoth
November 2, 2025 at 7:57 AM
Predictable waste of electricity. Just the 2 here in SJ93., LYU inside and LBAM on the window #TeamMoth
October 31, 2025 at 7:57 AM
Well that’s interesting. The Sunflower that I posted earlier has been identified by the CR as Perennial Coneflower Rudbeckia fulgida; a new county record!

A simple, but effective, colour scheme at this time of year - the Feathered Thorn. #TeamMoth
October 24, 2025 at 3:21 PM
Surprised to seeing this growing by the canal. It’s about 30cm tall. Looks like a diminutive Sunflower. What do you think @naturelark.bsky.social
October 23, 2025 at 11:11 AM
10 species was 10 more than expected! Included a Yellow-line Quaker - NFY. #TeamMoth
October 23, 2025 at 7:10 AM
14 species last night was more than expected esp. as there was nothing flying round the trap. First Juniper Carpet and Grey Shoulder-knot for year. #TeamMoth
October 21, 2025 at 7:08 AM
Seems mines are flavour of the day :) Here are two found on one Hornbeam leaf ion SJ93; Stigmella floslactella and Phyllonorycter esperella. #TeamMoth
