Just watched Point Blank starring Lee Marvin and directed by John Boorman. A not-quite adaptation of The Hunter by Donald Westlake.
Not quite my style despite loving the book and the film is quite restrained for Boorman. Undeniably beautiful and well made though. Is good.

Not silly at all!
I am happy for the reminder to bring this over from twit. 🧡

Let me show everyone who is completely at loss where to start drawing a background how you can beat the void; with super shitty 10 second doodles!

So you got your characters, right now they are free floating.. (1/6)

Very basic because I'm just a hobbyist, but to all the people out there who want to do art but have not yet put in the time: You are capable of more than you think. You can very quickly learn enough to surprise yourself and that realisation will change your life.

Also caught up on movies. Loved Wicked, enjoyed Singin' In The Rain. Very different approaches to musicals. Singing In The Rain often stops for a completely unrelated and disposable musical number. At one point to showcase an entirely different story from start to finish. #singinInTheRain #Wicked

Went home for the holidays. Experimented with drawing a place that meant something to me.

For Christmas, I would like to offer you the gift of my favourite fiction podcast. It's been completed years ago and, though I have found other great ones, I have found none better.

This is horrifying. It's a small-scale hollywood style pipeline for creating genocide-justifying propaganda. And if this works out for the IDF, I can't imagine other monstrous governments won't follow.
NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is now unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war

Brought me close to tears. You matter, and your actions matter. Even if your actions are small and only affect a few, or even just one, they matter. Don't devalue yourself through inaction.
Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

More doodles. If you've ever even seen How To Draw Noir Comics by Shawn Martinbrough, you'll recognise exactly one of these doodles, because I did a quick copy of the cover (hint: it's the one with the actual good composition).

Working on an over ambitious piece has been killing my fingers. Kids, if you're gonna put in a tonne of detail with a fineliner, at least train yourself to use a comfortable grip.
Anyway, I've been taking a break. But turns out I couldn't stop myself from doodling with brush and fountain pen.

Absolutely beautiful work. All the 80s and 90s nostalgia bait out there wants to tempt you with CRT monitors, chromatic abberation, pixel art and such. But statistically speaking and on a global scale, I'd bet you were more likely to have a gamebook or two near your heart.
A Tribute to Magnamund - This is a piece of cartographic fan art I created to show my appreciation for the Lone Wolf game book series.

Bumped up the contrast in post a bit. A prelim for a piece I'm aiming to do. Watercolour, coloured pencils, ink. I need to sort out the colour vibrancy when I do it for real. First time painting in years. Time before that was so much longer even.

Bit of leg exercise, a lot of art exercise.

One copied panel from Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Venus Wars manga. He uses a minimum amount of marks to maximum effect because he is a master.
I drew without an underdrawing (and messed up the visor). Also used an ink wash instead of screentones because I could not possibly replicate.

Copied panels from Mikes Barron and Mignola's adaptation of Corum. No underdrawing because I like to live life on the edge.

From October. Did #Pulptober put forth by artist Scott Chantler instead of Inktober. These are just some of them.

Created an account just to share this. Lord Zudrick of the Murder from @naddpod.bsky.social
He's a super serious character and I require the crew to take him so seriously.
