Definitely try to find an independent repair person, not a shop! If you have a local small craft store they may know a few names.

I had a 1980s Husqvarna Viking I got repaired recently and it absolutely runs better than newer machines for thicker materials!

Pipes freeze because warm air from your heater can't get to them. Best result is you don't have water till they thaw. Worst result is the pipes crack from ice expanding and then you get a massive water leak. Opening up cabinets under sinks and letting faucets drip is definitely a must!
