Who is asking for magical thinking? ICE is killing and detaining thousands without trial. They should be shut down.

Yes, that's unrealistic in current congress, but why start negotiations as voters from a compromised position. I'm not going to ask for "just a few less killings please."

I guess we should just say, "well we can't get rid of ALL the assaults, concentration camps, extrajudicial state sponsored killings, etc. So we should just try for small achievable budget cuts instead."

Again, lawmakers need to compromise, especially in the minority. That doesn't mean as voters we should compromise in our demands. Express what we really want, but understand that the result might be incomplete.

I'd argue that position is why Democrats are seen as ineffective. They start every negotiation from an already compromised position to make it more palatable to the opposition.

As lawmakers this has some validity, but as constituents we should be advocating for what we really want.

Absolutely. Government should be run by people with a future in the country who will live with the policies and decisions they worked for.

You weren't elected to point out what's wrong. You were elected to fix it.

You might not be able to directly counter this, but you have so many levers you and the rest of the Dem leadership just aren't using at all.

Do something or hand over the leadership to someone who will.
