Honestly I think their biggest hurdle will be manufacturing. So many pivots depend on scaling up manufacturing. Which ask many startup founders in climate tech, it isn't easy.

Boom argues that supersonic conditions more closely mimic those on the ground (hot temps, mainly). We'll see!

I'm not deep enough into this world to know whether the numbers they're touting represent a breakthrough, but there are other materials out there that can do this. The trick is whether they can do so profitably. So far the answer has been "no."
