Agree on the weapons, I stuck to the same three the entire game. Too bad about the sequel - never played it because the aesthetics didn't grab me.

It's not a BAD movie, IMO it's just that the medium of film struggles to adequately capture the psychological essence of the book. Requires more "tell, not show".
