It makes you aware of the huge efforts the Romans took to control their northern frontier.

It was an amazing (and painful!) experience, we met lovely people along the way and made loads of unforgettable memories. Now home by train (because the feet are on strike).

Finally #PhDone! It's Dr Debbie now 👩‍🎓

Although I already passed my viva in January, yesterday's ceremony marked the end of an era and the point where it became real.

Back home in #Durham after spending an amazing week at #EAA2022 in #Budapest. Thanks everyone for the fabulous time and see you soon!

When in #Athens, make sure to have a look up and around - there's some fantastic #StreetArt here!
May 6, 2025 at 12:10 AM
And it's on - @CAA_2022 @UniofOxford officially started and I'm very excited to be able to attend on person, meet all those amazing people and listen to great talks.
Looking forward to the next three days!

First day of @akgeoarc's annual meeting - a lot of interesting stuff on the program, including a talk by @RGKahlenberg about his project @LDFLandscapes.
Happy to meet in person again!
(And look at the mug, I love it! ❤️)

#Cyprus day 5: welcome to #Lefkosia, the divided city and my home for the next 4 weeks. I'll be working with #neuroscientist and @network_iConn #ESR 12, @karittevlis at @AAISCS. Separated by nomansland, the two parts and their #cultures are coexisting combining old and new.
May 6, 2025 at 12:15 AM
No archaeology on day 4 in #Cyprus but some walking and driving in the #Troodos mountains: two of the highlights were the #Kaledonia #waterfall - the landscape looks indeed a bit scottish - and the #RedLake, a relict of intensive #copper exploitation.

Next: the Tombs of the Kings near #Paphos. They were never meant for kings but rather for VIPs of the #Hellenistic and #Ptolomaic period. It's an unusual #necropolis because the tombs imitate the houses of the time, but underground! They're actual houses of the dead - with a view

#Cyprus day 3 started with a visit of #ancient #Kourion, certainly a site with a view! Located at the coast near #Limassol, it has a lot to offer: the #Roman agora, theatre, baths, villas and beautiful #mosaics as well as #Christian houses and a Christian #basilica.
May 6, 2025 at 12:15 AM
#Cyprus day 2: Visiting some #ancient sites in and around #Larnaca including #Kition, #Kavalasos and #Chirotikia. Their
dating varies from the Neolithic (Chirotikia & Kavalasos, c. 7000BC) and the Bronze Age (Kition, c. 1200BC). Impressive finds can be seen at the Larnaca Museum.

My first day on #Cyprus! 😀 Visited the impressive Late #BronzeAge city #Enkomi in Northern Cyprus, near #Salamis. It was a centre of #copper trade with cramped houses, protected by a wall of massive stone blocks. Some of the finds from here can be found @britishmuseum.

Went to see #TheWorldOfStonehenge @britishmuseum today, amazing stuff! The Nebra disk of course one of the highlights, but certainly not the only one 🤩
Next on the list (when I'm back in Germany): the equivalent #Stonehenge #exhibition @LWLMuseumArchae - can't wait!
May 6, 2025 at 12:16 AM
I'm using my Christmas holidays back home in Germany well: meeting my fellow @network_iConn ESRs @vevoutsa and Selim from Jakobs Universität Bremen. We spent a nice (but rainy) day in Münster and they were introduced to Flammkuchen 😊🤤

Yesterday, I gave my first in-person talk since I started my #PhD 1,5 years ago - such a nice and strange feeling to actually speak to physically present people again!
Thanks for having me and for the great evening, @Trevelyan_MCR @Trevscol!

My new book arrived today! Exactly what was missing for tackling #complex #societies in #Archaeology.
Thank you, @Iza_Romanowska @StefaniCrabtree @CDWren!
Very excited to dive into it and into the world of archaeological #ABM 😊👍
