He went on to say their meeting did not focus on areas of disagreement, “which there are many,” but on serving New Yorkers. “And I’ve been called much worse than a despot,” Trump chimed in. “It’s not that insulting.” Moments later, another reporter tried to clarify if Mamdani was affirming his view that Trump is a fascist. The strict controls include measures that prohibit the US companies from restricting how an array of Israeli government agencies, security services and military units use their cloud services. According to the deal's terms, the companies cannot suspend or withdraw Israel's access to its technology, even if it's found to have violated their terms of service. Israeli officials inserted the controls to counter a series of anticipated threats. They feared Google or Amazon might bow to employee or shareholder pressure and withdraw Israel's access to its products and services if linked to human rights abuses in the occupied Palestinian territories. They were also concerned the companies could be vulnerable to overseas legal action, particularly in cases relating to the use of the technology in the military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. The terms of the Nimbus deal would appear to prohibit Google and Amazon from the kind of unilateral action taken by Microsoft last month, when it disabled the Israeli military's access to technology used to operate an indiscriminate surveillance system monitoring Palestinian phone calls. Microsoft, which provides a range of cloud services to Israel's military and public sector, bid for the Nimbus contract but was beaten by its rivals. White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller said in July that there are administration officials “working continuously” to revoke the visas of foreigners who “espouse hatred for America or its people.” And in a thread on X this week, the State Department highlighted six examples of visas it said it had revoked from foreign nationals for celebrating the shooting death last month of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. There are more than 55 million people who have valid U.S. visas, including those for tourism, studying or work, according to The Associated Press, putting a huge swath of the population under potential social media monitoring. A federal judge in Boston ruled last month that the deportation policy violated the free speech rights of foreign students studying the United States who had expressed support for Palestinian rights, but the judge’s 161-page order did not address the administration’s monitoring of social media that led up to the deportation proceedings. A separate lawsuit pending in federal court in California is also challenging deportation orders. The latest lawsuit makes a different argument than the other two lawsuits: In addition to challenging the deportations of visa holders, it targets the Trump administration’s mass searches of social media, saying it amounts to an unlawful program of widespread surveillance and suppresses dissent. “They’re deploying a variety of automated and AI tools in order to scan and review speech online, at a mass scale that wouldn’t be possible with human review alone,” said Lisa Femia, a staff attorney for the San Francisco-based EFF, a nonprofit focused on digital rights and online civil liberties. “This sweeps in a lot of speech,” she said. “A lot of this is core political speech that is absolutely protected by the First Amendment.”

SB 243 will go into effect January 1, 2026, and requires companies to implement certain fear tures such as age verification, and warnings regarding social media and companion chatbots. The law also implements stronger penalties for those who profit from illegal deepfakes, including up to $250,000 per offense. Companies must also establish protocols to address suicide and self-harm, which will be shared with the state's epartment of Public Health alongside statistics on how the service provided users with crisis center prevention notifications. Per the bill's language, platforms must also make it clear that any interactions are artificially generated, and chatbots must not represent themselves as healthcare rofessionals. Companies are required to offer break reminders to minors and prevent them from viewing sexually explicit images generated by the chatbot.

Accordingly, the reasonable listener of "Not Like Us" would conclude that Lamar is rapping hyperbolic vituperations. Plaintiff contends that, in determining if the lyries in "Not Like Us" express fact or opinion, the Court must consider the subjective views of listeners, "as well as commentators in the rap industry and the press," who understood the Recording, Video and Image as an attempt to "convey a precise factual message (pedophilia) about Drake." Opp'n Br. at 7, 9; see also Am. Compl., $ 219. The Amended Complaint cites extensively to comments and posts from YouTube and Instagram that expressed the belief that the Recording had exposed the truth and that Drake truly was engaged in "pedophilia and sexual violence against children." Am. Compl., 1 219; see also id., 91 73-76, 78-82, 220. But "distinguishing between fact and opinion is a question of law for the courts, to be decided based on 'what the average person hearing or reading the communication would take it to mean."' Davis v. Boeheim, 24 N.Y.3d 262, 269 (2014) (citation omitted). "The dispositive inquiry is whether a reasonable (listener) could have concluded that the statements were conveying facts about the plaintiff." Id. at 269-70 (citation omitted). The views expressed by users @kaioken8026, @mrright8439, and @ZxZNebula, and the other You'Tube and Instagram commentators quoted in the Complaint, Am. Compl., 19 73-74, do not alter the Court's analysis. In a world in which billions of people are active online, support for almost any proposition, no matter how farfetched, fantastical or unreasonable, can be found with little effort in any number of comment sections, chat rooms, and servers. "[That some readers may infer a defamatory meaning from a statement does not necessarily render the inference reasonable under the circumstances." Jacobus, 51 N.Y.S.3d at 336. The artists' seven track rap battle was a "war of words" that was the subject of substantial media scrutiny and online discourse. Although the accusation that Plaintiff is a pedophile is certainly a serious one, the broader context of a heated rap battle, with incendiary language and offensive accusations hurled by both participants, would not incline the reasonable listener to believe that "Not Like Us imparts verifiable facts about Plaintift.

Guerrero-Cruz told Becerra he thought it was safe enough to walk the dog on the morning of Friday, Aug. 8. He did not bother to get fully dressed, going outside in pajamas and slippers. But he was surprised, he said through Becerra, by the sudden appearance, at about 7:50 a.m., of about 15 men and about three SUVs near the corner of Sepulveda Boulevard and Clark Street in Van Nuys. They grabbed him and started calling him by a name he said he didn't recognize. He protested he was not the person they were looking for. They said they would have to fingerprint him to confirm his identity - something that he said never happened, according to Becerra. The youth also alleges that the men did not identify themselves or show a warrant. Several wore jackets that said "immigration police." A man removed the dog's collar and then stamped the ground until the dog ran away, Becerra said, recounting her conversation with the student. The account of what happened with the dog was verified Tuesday by a neighbor, Valerie T., who said she saw the end of the encounter and who later caught the dog and returned it to the family. Guerrero-Cruz told Becerra he did not recall any agency insignia worn by the men who took him and who talked about the $1,500. Later, however, these men met up with agents who clearly were identifiable by insignia of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
