Great read, but I don't see why the same arguments wouldn't apply to qualitative methods. Laura Creighton's comment gets at the heart of it; the way I see it, not only are all models wrong, but they are wrong twice, since there is no objective reality.

Why would anyone trust billionaires or CEOs? Biggest conflict of interest ever.
The worlds richest people aren't investing in "AI" because it makes for useful tools and profitable companies, but because they think someone is about to create general artificial intelligence in the near future and they want to get there first.
They are *immune* to "AI doesn't work" arguments.

Seems bad to me that predictive modeling completely took over, and that now every optimization-related task is labeled as AI. I can barely find job openings that mention statistical methods.

If I had a calculator that gave me the wrong answer even 1% of the time I’d be extremely skeptical of using that calculator. But it’s good enough for most people and we’re just going to live with the consequences.

There are a lot of critiques of LLMs that I agree with but "they suck and aren't useful" doesn't really hold water.
I understand people not using them because of social, economic, and environmental concerns. And I also understand people using them because they can be very useful.
