And make no mistake - these housing types are illegal in most of DC!

Here's a map from @zoningatlas.bsky.social showing how many of the wealthiest part of the city have walled themselves off from needing to provide housing.

It's also a fiscal boon to the city - $1.2B over ten years. And the DC government doesn't have to spin up a new program or spend any money. All we have to do is legalize it!

Instead of incentivizing huge mcmansions in Ward 3, we could allow some rowhomes, a housing type DC is famous for. This would create more affordable, achievable pathways to homeownership for young families wishing to call DC home.

Our Neighbor to the North is eating our lunch when it comes to allowing new homes. They got rid of parking mandates and are poised to eliminate exclusionary zoning, too! Will @OPinDC draft a comp plan anything close to what Baltimore has been passing?

Also a good write-up of what respondents said in each forum, like this writeup of the hearing that we livetweeted extensively.

Here's the breakdown of the DMPED comments specifically. They line up pretty well with polling GGWash conducted last year on housing in DC, which found broad support for building more homes.
November 20, 2025 at 5:08 PM
Good work by GGWash digging into the written and verbal comments on the Chevy Chase Civic Center to find that there's significant support for more housing on the site.

61% of written comments to DMPED that had an opinion on housing supported it!

This is some great reporting from @wcp.bsky.social, and it's awful we're losing $35M in affordable housing credits because of agency dysfunction.

But can anyone explain the issue being described here? Do we lose the 2020 credits or something?

Great turnout for our Cleveland Park walking tour! Wonderful seeing everyone and talking about housing in Ward 3.

This article is specifically about NYC, but DC also often requires special one-off zoning exemptions for apartments, which drives costs and kills housing

Going through some of the letters submitted on the omnibus amendment (allows more in-law suites and other things). These stories show exactly why we need to build more homes in DC.

Genuinely an absolute disaster. We're going to feel it in prices in the next few years. We need to allow a lot more building in the comp plan and reduce cost/delays from zoning/permitting to counteract the interest rate environment.

Congrats to Isabel Cholbi, the new ANC for 5D01 (Union Market), who was sworn in by @cmzparker5.bsky.social yesterday.

Looking forward to working with her!

Shout-out to this absolute king. Speaking up in favor of homes makes a difference!

They delayed so long the project went from townhomes to a large building. Are townhomes really such ain't to the character of Taking Park that they needed to be blocked?

Love getting to the part of the urbanism book that talks about local NIMBYs

Incredible turnout last night. We are going to bring more homes and new neighbors to ward 3.

Help us make it happen.

DC alleys don't need to be this way. We can fill them with homes and turn them into communities within communities.

Take action now!
