I post on UK issues because I spent much time & effort trying to warn people about the rightward shift of US "conservatives" and what it would lead to.

I moved here and see the same forces now working to capture the UK govt and impose what has been imposed on the US. I give a shit so I post & warn.

People started understanding the economy is rigged, resulting in terrible, destructive inequality.

People understand what has been happening. Polls started showing large majorities for taxing the rich & corporations, and for regulating banks & corps, and other things.

So along came fascism

This is, yet again, evidence that Putin exerts some kind of control over the Trump administration. There is no way around it.

We have to look at their efforts to destroy the US govt in light of this.

A functioning democracy would regulate banks, corporations

A functioning GOVERNMENT would.

A kleptocracy wouldn't

When your pay increases and you are "dragged" into a higher tax bracket ONLY the amounts over the threshold are taxes at that higher rate. The rest is still taxed at the old rate. A pay increase means you get more money, not less.

"Dragged" is a propaganda word.
Rachel Reeves in last year's Budget: "I have come to the conclusion that extending the threshold freeze would hurt working people. It would take more money out of their payslips. I am keeping every single promise on tax that I made in our manifesto.”

Private finance COSTS MORE because you end up paying the financiers.
NHS private finance diverts money away from healthcare, towards the pockets of private shareholders.

Cat Eccles MP’s motion can force the government to drop their NHS private finance plans from the Autumn Budget.

✉️Take 2 mins now to email your MP to sign the motion and protect patients.

Paying NHS medical staff competitive salaries stops people from going private or leaving the UK.

This SAVES MONEY in the longer term by reducing the pressure to contract with private facilities to meed patient needs.
At its core, this doctor’s strike is a fight to ensure patients have access to an NHS doctor right now and well into the future. Thank you to @jordanrivera.bsky.social and the Homerton Unison team for their support yesterday. It was great to be home.

🔥 Rachel Reeves says there’s a “hole” in the public finances.

A new decade-long Brexit study quantifies it:

A 6–8% hit to GDP

That's £180bn-£240bn a year

It means less tax revenue and so less money for everything.

Brexit made Britain MUCH poorer.

If you cut taxes on the wealthy, and then borrow from the wealthy instead, what happens is you pay interest TO the wealthy forever.

Which is better, higher taxes on the rich & their corporations or you pay taxes so the government can pay interest TO the rich?

PS maybe make them pay taxes at all?
