A @dubcitycouncil.bsky.social initiative to imagine, trial and establish solutions that improve living in the city. www.dccbeta.ie

There's some additional info in the alt text. They're where people had applied for spaces within a BikeBunker - light blue looking for 1 space, dark blue 2 spaces (which was the cap).

Mapping expressions of interest in a trial is useful to give a sense of scalability and types of areas interested.

Hi Oisín, one option could be to let people themselves decide. Even with side passages, they may have reasons to want them. Then install based on demand.

Perhaps the best analogy for #NeighbourhoodBETA is a 'vending machine for neighbourhood options'.

As new solutions get progressed, DCC would add those 'new products' to the 'vending machine' (prob a website).

Areas could easily see their options, choose for trialling, vote whether to keep or not.

Thanks. We ran some tests, learned a lot and will return to it...and need to update that project page.

It's here in the project pipeline. trello.com/b/8jXnfMIO/b...

3 projects, #NeighbourhoodBETA, #StreetMixBETA and that 'Street Priorities' project mentioned are all somewhat related.

Thanks Darragh.

Also just to note that the #BikeBunkers tender and contract was designed to enable the other 3 local authorities in Dublin to use also - saving them the procurement effort and time.

So same as #DublinCanvas, it's a solution for the Dublin Region.

The #CooktopBETA trial has now been removed from Herbert Park.

We had a meeting yesterday to discuss potentially trialling it elsewhere. If you've a suggestion, please let us know! dccbeta.ie/project/arti...

Thanks!

There's actually also a specific "play street" sign in addition to that regular blue woonerf sign. Here... maps.app.goo.gl/Fba1vN9GroXm...

@bicycledutch.bsky.social @cathytuttle.bsky.social @cianginty.bsky.social Anyone know any more about whether this is a regular initiative in the NL?

Hi, is this the play sign that you're referring to?

Which NL town/city are you in? Google maps lists multiple Eendrachtstraat's. 😅

Hi, the sign reads "larger cycles"? That's a nice, simple and inclusive phrasing.
November 7, 2025 at 10:18 AM
Yes, appears to be.

"Drivers often enter a low-traffic zone because it's unclear when they're allowed to. For eg, Steenstraat is low-traffic every day, but Geldmuntstraat is only on weekends. They're green when you can drive through, red when you can't."

Presumably e-cargobikes could do the same.

But perhaps you're right - if they don't have much congestion for cars, they might be able to cover a wider area faster.

@bicycdutch.bsky.social might know?
October 29, 2025 at 9:38 PM
Hi Cathy, it being Utrecht, do you know why cars are used rather than cargo bikes for example? It's not mentioned in that document.

Perhaps because of how cycles are separated away from parked cars and so can't see the number plates? Or perhaps other reasons such as safety of the vehicle operator?
October 29, 2025 at 9:09 PM
Hi, both should be the solution.

1. Lots of regular bike stands as the free, basic, default - for residents and visitors.

2. Then the additional option of BikeBunkers for residents who want an extra layer of security or protection.

(In terms of space, BikeBunkers are about the same efficiency.)

This EU initiative would provide a more formalised way to approach the same 😊 - facilitating City-to-City learning.

Thanks Oisina!

If you were to be very critical and suggest some improvements, what would they be?
