I'd say the couple of hundred thousand people who have come to the UK from Hong Kong aren't that visible and have largely gone undiscussed

As evidenced by the most recent drop in inward migration, and the general lack of attention it's received, people don't really care about the numbers. They care about the visibility of migration.

Especially after spending any time at school in the 70s when pretty well all schools had teachers that had fought in the war. They were very clear on where they stood on all of that

I've just checked PIA and it does have Bangladesh. Kazakhstan is the closest I can see to Russia. I assume sanctioned countries are harder to run servers in

Yeah, I'm dubious of the VPN theory. I've not come across a VPN that offers the option to route through places like Russia (or Russian affiliated countries) or Bangladesh.
