…so: does anyone have any advice and guidance on how to extricate myself from this situation? I’d be burning a considerable amount of social capital with an outright “no”, but “only *this* and not *that* doesn’t seem to be heard, either.

Now that booze is seriously expensive at venues in Ottawa, crowds seem to be much better behaved. I don’t know that it makes for friendlier crowds, but at least I know I’m not going to get stomped on or knocked over by flying limbs or bodies.
