thankfully, this does not include making/removing connections. just updates to the node itself.
and, no, the rest of this UI does not appear to be immediate mode.

today in wtf godot: every time a shader graph node is changed, it's destroyed and replaced by a completely new node.
yes, this means that every time you click these little dropdowns, a new node is being created :)
