I can't defend that, either. I am NOT a Bama fan; I am simply critical of how the system is (not) working because the NCAA wants an odd mix of rankings and conf title games...and it does not work.

Maybe not. But that is a separate (though reasonable) argument. Whatever we may think, that is where they were placed.

But then why were they ranked #9? In essence, thise rankings are standings. So the team in 9th place had to
play against the team in 3rd place in order to make the playoffs over the team that is in 11th place? Make that make sense.

Bottom line is, a team solidly in the playoff should not lose their spot to a team sitting at home because they lost a conf title game. the NCAA and the conferences are and have always been about $ and not what makes sense. In some cases, a higher seed is having to play a play-in game.

I hate 'bama but they were forced to play an extra game, as was BYU. A lot of things can be true at the same time: the system is a mess, it wants conf title games but punishes its participants, and ND lurks around without any of that, which is also a mess. 🤷🏻♂️

I am not knocking either team, but the playoff system is a mess because the NCAA wants these confernce title games, which are stupid and unnecessary...and maybe just cost Indiana its best WR.
