I kept my eye out for some birds, so here are cranes supporting a Ming incense burner, tiny ducks adorning flagons from prehistoric Lorraine (being hunted by dogs on the handles) and gorgeous detail on a Qing dynasty moon vase.

About half way through my British Museum visit and I've reached Sutton Hoo. Here's the helmet and the remarkable shoulder-clasps, the reconstruction and the slightly misleading way I first met the image in 1983.

A late, leisurely walk on the common this morning as a gentle warm-down from yesterday's 16 (SIXTEEN)* miles, and I can report it's in fine fettle.
