I share your worry plus climate crisis, unregulated wealth, massive sudden overpopulation, massive, sudden population collapse … and politicians who in feel they have to pretend to know what they’re doing. Are we mature enough for honest politicians? They overuse, unprecedented but this really is.

I’m sure this sounds naive but I’d like to suggest youth would be more likely to vote if we address them with respect … and if politicians themselves treated each other with respect. The quality of political interaction is so bad. No wonder there is so much apathy.

We are eight billion. “By weight, less than 6% of mammals in the world are truly wild” said Sir David Attenborough in his recent documentary, Mammals. “The other 94% are our livestock, our pets and ourselves.” I’m staggered by how relaxed we seem to be about that.

You seem to dismiss “people who support de-growth”. I don't align myself with them but I am concerned about the step change in population and its consequences for the planet. Earth evolved to accommodate less than half a billion humans who didn’t need much water, lithium or concrete.
