If that becomes the new normal, we will look back and realize this wasn’t the end of a war, it was the beginning of a global era where force replaces treaties, and security guarantees mean nothing.

That cannot be where the US or Europe allows this to land.

But more alarming is how that lynchpin works both ways.

The traits that give a system its adaptive strength are often the same traits that certain groups fear because those traits also reduce control.

High-entropy advantages make the system flexible, robust, and innovative.

One charismatic leader can stabilize a nation or a startup.

One interest rate hike can stabilize a currency.

One new API or constraint stabilizes a codebase.

One social norm stabilizes community behavior.

These are all manifestations of the same principle the paper demonstrates.

Nature has been fighting narcissistic parasites for hundreds of millions of years.

We’re the latecomers.

Social species had to solve this problem long before humans existed. Once again, nature is providing the cue to our current dilemma.
