This explanation from @pewresearch.org of a uniform definition of religion - and therefore not count "#Jews of no religion" illustrates how so many have difficulty understanding what it is to be #jewish as an identity. Pew has a clear goal -- not faulting them. Just noting the inconsistency.

Not for nothing but "side hustle" is much better than "polyworking."

...and with that, I'm gonna highlight this in the art of the #perfectturnofphrase... #booksky

This one is just a great example of tight writing.

Shameless promotion time for me! Over at #rutgers we've put together a great panel for late April on the future of #journalism featuring some great minds (RU grads, natch) from across the industry. I'll keep putting details out there.

If eating a #sandwich like this is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

The sudden appearance of a giant canister of popcorn in the office.

Nobody knows where it comes from.

Just that it is there.

The #UNH suspect apparently also "ill will toward corporate America," per the NYPD. Other media outlets reporting his writings may reference the #Unabomber, who we all knew from the 80s/90s for his 35,000 word manifesto and series of mail-bomb murders. For yrs all we had was this stenciled pic.

Many of you may be aware of the "Pizza Belt" theory, which is that the best (or perhaps only edible #pizza) is in the swath that runs from South Jersey to roughly Providence RI.

It still maps well with the US map of predominant ancestries. (The counties in white? Italian was tops in 2010).

(As for the license plate? It's a good one. Simple, with a jagged top to represent Colorado's mountains. Doesn't try too hard. After the previous bunch of low-level disasters, Colorado is a breath of fresh air. It gets a B.)

These days, Bailey and that voice are generally in service of Maurice’s parts. Maurice was a tenor - Philip was an alto but he’s now more like a tenor as you can catch from this 2016 clip.

And then they bring out the lights and the last three “originals” - Bailey, Verdine White, the most frenetic bassist around, and percussionist Ralph Johnson.

And then EWF comes out with all of the hallucinations and its 3 last semi-original members - Verdine White, the most frenetic bassist around, percussionist Ralph Johnson, and Bailey.

So let’s go for a twist and talk about one of Denver’s favorite sons, Philip Bailey of #EWF, aka “The Voice.”

Let’s continue the #America thread with #Colorado, a state I’ve only visited once. (Yeah, that’s #BuckhornExchange, a restaurant that meets Moe Sislak’s description of “good food, good fun, and a lot of crazy crap on the walls.”)

The license plate, on the other hand? Mixed. I mean, the cursive is fine - it's very much that state's attitude. But the web site has got to go, and it's otherwise not doing all that much. C+

That was the perspective we had at the moment, anyway. Plus, 16 - so, y'know, no filter. Meantime, the license plate. #Arkansas goes with the diamond for the Natural State, and the color palette is pretty straightforward. It's relatively pleasing, though nothing out of this world. Gets a C+.

So when you cross the river over from Memphis, it's like the world opens up. It's fields, fields, fields. Rice, corn, sorghum, what-have-you. (That's a RTRS photo below by Carlo Allegri).
November 27, 2024 at 1:05 PM
As for the license plate? It's just okay. It doesn't even feature the Grand Canyon, and instead goes with this sorta Wile E. Coyote-thing that's a bit much. I give this one a C+, and just barely. We haven't gotten to many good ones yet.
