I know I'm late to the party but just finished reading 'Pushing Ice' by Alastair Reynolds. What a great book! Gritty space mining action, Big Dumb Object (kind of), aliens, vast expanses of time - the story has it all! Not sure why it isn't better known - or maybe it is and I just missed it?
