The Fairness Doctrine never applied to cable. Even if the Doctrine were still in effect TODAY, FOX News would be EXEMPT.

The FCC has no such legal authority to do that.

FOX and Newsmax are both **cable channels** which do not answer to the FCC to begin with.

He doesn't HAVE and FCC license to begin with....
November 15, 2025 at 12:33 PM
FOX News is a **cable channel**, not a broadcast station. They do not carry an FCC license

The Fairness Doctrine never applied to the media and never applied to news reporting. Such a mandate would have been a violation of the First Amendment.
November 14, 2025 at 11:55 PM
I’m afraid YOU are the one missing the point. The Fairness Doctrine wouldn’t have changed ANY OF THIS, and I’m not sure why you seem to think government regulation of the media is the answer.

Most local FOX stations (like the one I work for) cover primarily local news stories. We might do a quick re-cap of the big NATIONAL stories at the top of the 6pm newscast, but maybe 10 minutes, tops.

And - one other thing to keep in mind - is that BROADCAST NEWS makes up just a small percentage of the media, and most of the news covered by local broadcasters is just that - LOCAL NEWS.

"controversial issues of public interest" can be ANYTHING, from housing projects to community issues. It RARELY involved politics or any hot-button issues of the day. Frankly, it was usually boring, everyday stuff.
November 14, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Also, the Doctrine never specified WHAT was considered "controversial issues of public interest". It could be ANY issue considered "controversial". Also, the Doctrine never specified how to present "controversial issues of public interest" - it was left up to the broadcasters to decide.

But FOX News is NOT a BROADCASTER, thus they were never subject to the Doctrine to begin with. Ironically, if the Doctrine were still in force TODAY, FOX News would be EXEMPT.

As the Fairness Doctrine never applied to the media to begin with (as it would have violated the First Amendment) what kind of "effect" are you thinking it had on FOX News? Especially since the FD also never applied to cable.
November 14, 2025 at 7:17 PM
The Fairness Doctrine never regulated "journalism" to begin with, so the "death" of the Fairness Doctrine had no bearing whatsoever
November 14, 2025 at 4:11 PM
FOX News is a **cable channel**, not a broadcast station. They do not carry an FCC license and they are not subject to FCC oversight.
November 14, 2025 at 3:33 PM
It's a trope that just won't die and continues to pop up.
November 14, 2025 at 3:32 PM
FOX News is a **cable channel**, not a broadcast station. They do not carry an FCC license, and there is no such thing as an "entertainment" license.
November 13, 2025 at 2:17 PM
Fox owns lots of things. The bottom line is local fox stations are not Fox News. It’s not legal for us or even *technically feasible* for local FOX stations to air FOX NEWS programming
November 13, 2025 at 1:08 AM
FOX *Network* and FOX *NEWS* are not the same thing...

FOX Network: NFL, Simpsons, Masked Singer....
FOX News: Hannity, Watters, Ingraham

Our stations is part of FOX *Network*, not FOX *News*. The only thing we share with FOX News is the name "FOX". And some FOX stations don't even do THAT
November 13, 2025 at 12:19 AM
BTW, the company name is "FOX Television Stations LLC" (my employer) and we are not part of FOX News and we do not air any FOX News content.
November 12, 2025 at 10:53 PM
Local FOX stations are NOT part of FOX News. I work for a local FOX station, and we've been told by the FCC - IN WRITING - that our station cannot be fined, sanctioned, or otherwise penalized for content that airs on FOX News.

The FCC can't issue fines or revoke licenses unless they violate FCC rules.
November 12, 2025 at 10:49 PM
WHAT license??
November 12, 2025 at 10:48 PM
FOX News is a **cable channel**, not a broadcast station. They do not carry an FCC license

I've followed the story since I was a kid, along with the stories of the Carl D. Bradley and Daniel J. Morrell wrecks
