Our family may have overdone it on the mashed potatoes this year.

We made what may have been (obviously was) too many mashed potatoes for 5 people and a toddler.

We were able to smooth the bowl back over when we were done and it wasn't clear we had eaten any.

Not all cultures (ie. The Sword Sultanate) or religions (ie. The Celestial Faith) appreciate such content, but that mostly leads to not talking about it rather than not making or consuming it.
