The big question is, will the chancellor be bold enough to raise Fuel Duty in the budget and raise more than £24 billion to invest in the rail network or other forms of public transport?

The rail companies can set Unregulated Fares based on their commercial strategy and include advance-purchase tickets, first-class fares, and certain flexible or ‘saver’ products.

Regulated Rail fares have consistently risen, often by more than the retail price index, since 2010.
