Does anyone know what this huge chimney close to Birkenhead Hamilton Square station was for? All I can imagine is that it was for the “giant grasshopper” pump???

I’m sure that people of an uncertain age from the Wirral will remember this police officer directing traffic from his striped and elevated position near Birkenhead docks.

I have never really thought of myself as a collector of china but all of a sudden … a pin dish called “Gateway to Liverpool” from a watercolour by Sam J Brown made t celebrate the centenary in 1963 of British & Foreign Marine Insurance.

These two photos were captioned as soldiers during the 1911 Transport Strike but the presence of the band and the fact that they are emerging from behind the Town Hall suggests to me that they are Liverpool soldiers leaving the city to fight in WWI.
