For anyone wondering how good a Belted Kingfishers eyesight is, this one is fishing fron two thirds of the way up a tall tree that is also some distance away from the Colpoy's Bay shoreline. It's the tall tree closest to the camera in the second photo.

The area covered by the photo is roughly 1/4" × 3/8" (6 × 9 mm). The photo was used for a monthly competition in BBC Wildlife magazine where a reader could win a year's subscription by correctly identifying the subject. No one won a subscription the month this image was used.

Thanks. The power line is on the opposite side of the road from where the creek runs into Colpoy's Bay so it's some distance from the water.
