Well done @privateeyenews.bsky.social for covering the Scottish Government’s ongoing failure to protect the marine environment. Many more stories like this, unfortunately, so I hope to see more in your pages.

We're just back from the Red Sea, and it's bad there too. Worst bleaching I've seen and I'm there a couple of times a year. Have to see what our long-term transects show up in the summer, but between bleaching and Diadema loss it's not likely to be good.

New paper by Neil Burns, Charlotte Hopkins and me on making seascape maps from BRUV camera data doi.org/10.1016/j.ec...

All in support of better understanding of essential fish habitat, taking into account all the different types of seabed and their relationships with each other. More to come.

Another amazing but knackering day on the Tropical Marine Biology field course in Egypt. We've run this course at University of Glasgow for more than 30 years, and there's always something new to see. Today we explored a seagrass bed and the remote reef on the other side, beautiful

We're offering a great #PhD studentship on the effects of MPAs on people. It'll be led by environmental economist Kat Simpson with partners at Newcastle and York. A really important topic with lots to find out, bringing together natural and social science.

We're off to #Egypt next week for Tropical Marine Biology field course, so we give the students a close up look at specimens to help their coral ID. Organsed and taught by Mike Rutherford, Curator of Zoology and Anatomy, one of the field course instructors. #marinebiology #fieldwork #Egypt #coral

I'm David Bailey, I study fish, their habitats, and marine conservation generally at the University of Glasgow. We do lots of work on the beautiful West Coast of Scotland, but also in Bangladesh's mangroves, coral reefs in various places, deep sea, and previously in Antarctica. I may lack focus.
