NEW, for The Handbasket:

I spoke with concerned community members and local/state electeds about what's been going on re: detainments on the parkways in the DC area. Commuters use these fed hwys to get to and from work--and now families of detained drivers are on the hook for hundreds in tow fees.
NEW—US Park Police w/ DHS officers near DC are increasingly pulling over Black and brown men, leaving their work vans on the side of the parkway + immediately calling a local towing company to take them. Families who just lost their breadwinner are stuck with the bill.

@melbuer.bsky.social reports:
Families of DC-area immigrant drivers snatched by feds stuck with tow bill
Elected officials and activists note work vehicles removed lightning fast, resulting in hundreds in fees.

The Houston Workers Assembly organizing bootcamp yesterday was a rousing success. We packed the IATSE Local 51 hall with working people eager to learn organizing skills and forge new bonds.

Next up is a social on December 6 at Moon Tower - bring a friend, have a beer, and shoot the breeze!

In my dreams there's a worker-owned publication covering issues impacting young people, their jobs, their campuses, etc. that prioritizes paying and supporting young people to do a lot of that coverage. (And in my dreams I'm organized enough to get moving on this.)

Reminder: A lot of great books published this year during absolutely bonkers news & world event times. That squashes people talking about them. Keep buying books please, keep borrowing them from libraries, and for the love of all that's good, talk about them. Post about them. 📚

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

After THREE FUCKING YEARS ON STRIKE, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers have WON!

Like Sergeant Apone says, the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh are absolutely badasses. What an incredible display of solidarity, and a model for us all.
BREAKING: We won!

Today the 3rd Circuit Court ordered the @post-gazette.com to restore our contract it illegally tore up 5 years ago. That’s our health care, PTO, right to a 40-hr. work week, short-term disability and so much more we’ve struck for 3+ years.
