I tend to use the balls rolling down the hill into a valley analogy. They seems to have a good grasp that objects are more energetically stable lower down (stuff drops) and then gradually linking to the energetic well. Never perfect, but stops them anthropomorphizing atoms (mostly...).

Nice :) Lego blocks for me, which are also very useful for teaching compound formation.

They certainly do! Will play it by ear to start with - probably once a week, about 10 minutes.

I'm looking to develop more through-year practice and revision in and out of lessons.
