this small pond often hosts great blue (and other) herons, nesting swans (1 pair a year), and various diving ducks. visible at the top of the ridge is a major multi-lane highway with constant traffic (i waited). homeless encampments dot the bank.

bright red leaves collect along the front edge of an ornately decorated marble memorial. wind and light have found the same nest: sunlight pools with the red leaves while the rest of the marble is in shadow. the setting sun is mostly blocked by an extra tall tree that's lost half it's leaves. on the far side of the tree silhouette is a pocket of bright sunlight. it's summer there if you can make it before the dark.
