Ellen’s Glen - a few years after the trees were cut down and umpteen years since the bank collapsed… the wall is reinstated and fences are away! 🎉 Bollards back in too. Bittersweet for us - a certain someone would’ve loved extra wheeling room but been annoyed at no fences to shake. 🥺 @spokes.org.uk

Awful that any primary school might need Hostile Vehicle Mitigation bollards. Even worse if they don’t get anything. I’d bet on speed cushions for Polton St - usual council response…

Yes, that would probably be a better place for tram stop. I wasn’t sure about car parking on Groathill Ave (but I guess you could say the same about Belford Rd). Another option… (a shame there aren’t more in consultation!) 🙄

Alt route would continue on Queensferry Rd to junction with South Groathill Avenue. Traffic lights would need changes and lane constructed into verge near Craigleith Retail Park. Plus point is stop next to shops. Route would then cross road (more lights needed) then rejoin section of Roseburn path.

Queensferry Terrace onto Queensferry Road has a good angle and filter lane could be useful. Potential for tram stop in grass area south of road at Orchard Park. Would need lights where tracks leave/join road. Additional stop vs current Roseburn path plans (so I put icon in grey).

Either way, alt route would go onto Belford Rd. I think tram could make turn but would need lights installed. It’s a kind of 3-lane road with some car parking so not sure how suitable for tram. But already lights at junction going onto Queensferry Terrace at Ravelston Dykes/Ravelston Terrace.

If you think “no chance you’ll get route past those houses/cross street/lose trees/lose car park space” that’s fair enough. I have an easier alternative - a wee tour round the edge of St George’s school playing fields! Aye, I know…

Question marks about route crossing street and cutting past gardens. Also, losing trees alongside Water of Leith and up to rear car park of Modern One (Dean Gallery). Would need to go through stone wall and car park to get to driveway. But potential tram stop at major visitor attraction is big plus.

Obviously trying to fit new transport infrastructure into a residential area will have issues. Council probably like Roseburn path partly as it would minimise complaints from homeowners. My alternative suggestion would cause disruption for small number of people living on Coltbridge Gardens.

I had similar thoughts about route but using width on existing Coltbridge viaduct then avoiding Roseburn path. Deviation (in purple) cuts across Coltbridge Gdns into Modern One car park. Dunno how viable but cheaper than a new bridge. - www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...

Forgot to post yesterday about a sandbag that was left in middle of northbound cycle lane on Lasswade Rd (opposite Carnbee estate entrance). I moved it, unfortunately spilling a trail of sand from a hole in bag. Hopefully a one off. @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike

I saw that graffiti earlier on a trip last month! Just need someone to post finished piece now…

I probably need to write a blog post about experience getting around #Vancouver. A lot to like, esp public transport for key sites (like Skytrain from airport to SeaBus). Loved cycling round Stanley Park sea wall but photo shows where it got real - weirdly reminded me of Glasgow at M8 motorway!

Not sure when path was finished but I first saw it under construction a month or so ago. Work on reinforcing wall at Ellen’s Glen is coming on too. bsky.app/profile/dash...

First ride on new path by Niddrie Burn between Greendykes roundabout and Hunter’s Hall Park. Useful wee traffic-free link after BioQuarter/Little France Park. Smooth surface with lighting set back off tarmac. Bare verges for now but expect they’ll soon sprout up. @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike

Re: funding nations/regions and how centralised UK is. Talking a lot of sense (too much for folk in London?). If future govt is a concern for Welsh rail, spare a thought for Clyde Metro trying to get off the ground in greater Glasgow: www.spt.co.uk/about-us/wha...

Brave to take on such an iconic logo - almost impossible to improve on it. Your flat colour posters look better than gradients. You’ll probably need another look at bilingual signs. I’m not sure about all white background on outside sign - won’t stand out so well on grey days (see photos)

A few things from today’s ride in South Edinburgh that were news to me. Ellen’s Glen has reopened, new widened pavements at Greendykes Rd and ‘missing link’ path being built between there and path to bridge in Hunters Hall Park.

While in Manchester, I stumbled across new cycling infra under construction near Trafford Bar (Talbot Rd). Seems to be replacing painted lanes? Not sure if it’s part of same scheme as below. Positive if it starts to tame massive dual carriageways and link to Trafford Rd infra which stops at bridge.

Recently tried out Starling/Beryl Bikes in #Manchester. Some glitches with app on iPhone (seemed better on partner’s Android). Cheaper than Glasgow and manual bike was fine (I used to own a 3-speed). Doesn’t cover south/east of city so had to double back to dock bike then walk to Levenshulme.😒
