No idea of research but a random life expectancy tables (giving male life expectancy at 65 of 20 years) show a 65 year old male has approx 0.85% chance of dying that year - 16% reduction to that brings it to 0.72% chance which isn’t that big a difference! adds about 2 years to life expectancy
