They are to those they like. Once you stop qualifying as likable to them though, it's soup can grenade time.

I tried buying the approval of strangers on the internet once and my payment bounced.

They've been told to from the top. A lot of media giants want this to go away because it's raising issues regarding their on-the-ground reporting standards i.e. if they even have any at this point.

It also doesn't help that the Trump admin is banking on this being a foreign policy victory for them.

I dread the day this happens to Terry Pratchett's work.

He's playing the same game Condoleeza Rice was playing during the early days of the Patriot Act, when Americans were first coming to grips with the idea their government could secretly kidnap and hold them forever for so much as looking like they could potentially be part of Al Qaeda in the future.

Is it the same word for someone who pays for streaming services they end up never using? Because it should be.

Have they found the thousand or so people they disappeared from Alligator Alcatraz yet?
September 26, 2025 at 11:13 AM
Nope. The world cup's going to tank and the Olympics won't fare any better. The billions spent on all that will be the final nail in the coffin for the US tourism industry.

Involving the military in public affairs is where the saying 'crossing the Rubicon' comes from.

This has the potential to go way, way beyond the standard fuck around & find out formula.
September 21, 2025 at 12:51 AM
I think that that's what they're aiming for at this point. Freezing all this shit in its tracks and laying down some ground rules so that things stop going sideways for five bloody minutes is absolutely necessary to get at least some order to the chaos underway.

I want in, so here I go:
GEONOSIS: MAJOR JEDI RAID LEAVES 100S DEAD, SPARKS DIPLOMATIC CRISIS IN OUTER RIM

GEONOSIS: REPORTS OF 'SECRET ARMIES' DEPLOYED ON SURFACE, AT LEAST ONE BIOLOGICAL

GEONOSIS: YAN DOOKU DECRIES RAID, URGES ALLIES TO SECEDE FROM REPUBLIC IN RETALIATION

OUTER RIM DECLARES WAR

You would be surprised how well that actually holds up.

"If we don't know what we're doing, the enemy sure as hell won't either." Is, after all, a saying that's commonly associated with the US military.

It probably doesn't help that this organised effort they're targeting doesn't exist yet either.

This is the fourth time the story has changed. What exactly are they trying to obfuscate here?
September 18, 2025 at 12:38 PM
The great thing about infighting incompetent morons is that they don't keep secrets for very long, so I fully expect this whole thing to be turned into a musical.
September 16, 2025 at 11:57 AM
When it comes out that this traces straight back to the far right, will they try burying it?
September 16, 2025 at 11:13 AM
Ah yes, the famously left leaning professors from the famously left leaning state of Utah.
September 13, 2025 at 8:34 AM
Well, gutting the FBI and putting a Cosplayer at the helm of every major US intelligence agency just in time for an assassin to take out a potential future colleague while the whole domestic intelligence system is in chaos might explain that one.

Malice and incompetence are twins in many ways.
September 12, 2025 at 12:18 PM
Don't worry, you are. You lot have endured far worse and come out the other side swinging for the fences. This is the third or fourth time in US history that the country has been in the state it's in now and you made it through every time.

Have faith in yourselves and you'll eventually prevail.

If this actually helps topple Trump administration, I might just forgive Bloomberg for being dicks for abusing the DMCA and copystriking Gamer's Nexus out of petty spite. I mean it's not likely, but still...
September 11, 2025 at 12:39 PM
Because the journos know the answer, probably kicked it up the chain for some funding to pursue the story, only to get told no by the people who know the answer personally, visited the answer in person and have had the answer blackmail them into going along with the answer's presidential campaign.

First saw this meme back in the 2010's. It sure has aged like fine Wine. I really wish it hadn't.
September 10, 2025 at 1:14 PM
Let's just hope that's the date and not the price for a copy of the game.
September 10, 2025 at 1:12 PM
That's not age, that's wisdom.

Equipment safety ratings can mean the difference between life, death and a soufflé covered in soft lead.

Always know what your tools are categorically not meant to do ever, if only so you have a fun thing to do on a Sunday afternoon when the cops aren't around.

2000s: "The internet is a series of tubes!"

2025: "AI turns electricity into intelligence!"

Deeply flawed and unserious misunderstandings of how tech works will continue to entertain us for centuries.
