college should, in the US, be free. college is not - nor has it ever been, despite the protestations of our trade school colleagues (business, engineering, etc.) and administrators - simply job training.

Yes! And as you’re very aware, the frustration from staff sometimes comes from not having the same flexibility even though we work in the same environment and sometimes have similar credentials.

Julianne Moore was a parent at the school where I taught, and same, even in the breakfast line. We both wore Danskos and had literally nothing else in common. She glowed at a time of day when I was barely sentient.

As someone who left Michigan for DC,
I think you’re absolutely right. Add trains and buses and give everyone a light therapy lamp and you’d add a million people.

I did some archival research with old copies of the Daily a while back and was shocked to find out that this existed! In the 1920s or so, iirc. People would take the train to Ypsi to go out on Saturdays!
