And we can trace variations as they travel in towards the black hole through the accretion disc, before they reach the inner regions and energise the corona that produces the X-rays. We can begin to see the connection between the corona and disc in real time!

Using these wavelet-based methods, we can uncover the echo or reverberation signal that was mysteriously missing in a couple of well-studied supermassive black holes. Echoes from the accretion disc can be hidden beneath ultrafast outflows (UFOs), winds at 25% the speed of light
