I once (many years ago) read someone saying the same thing about newspaper reports. "All articles about [science, economics, art, whatever your specialism is] contain basic errors and misunderstandings, so I have to assume that all the articles on things I know nothing about also have basic errors."

I assume it's not a mobile and they're expecting you to WhatsApp them? Frankly, no email, no contact.

I think it's more that you're a neutral observer. So you can be interested in a football match but disinterested in the result. Anyway, this is all utterly moot because language evolves!

'Disinterested' used to mean neutral, impartial, having no *vested* interest, as opposed to 'uninterested', meaning simply bored or indifferent. But most dictionaries now seem to include both meanings for 'disinterested'.

*Must resist temptation to be pedantic about 'disinterest' vs. 'lack of interest'* (Although I think this particular battle was lost long ago!)

Also, Karen Steiner has a nice ring to it, don't you think..? 😜

I once went to a gender-neutral hairdresser by mistake. Terrible, terrible mistake. I don't like getting my hair cut at the best of times, but they insisted on washing it and kept trying to talk to me. It was awful.
