They'll be ok. They can cut down on take away coffees, cancel their Netflix, get a better paying job, get a second job, buy from value ranges at the supermarket, or go to a cheaper supermarket. There's loads of helpful tips and tricks. They can just Google "shit poor people are told".

My point here is not that crime, racism, terrorism, pollution etc were all worse in the 70s but that the period 1973-77 in particular was one of crisis, paranoia and hysteria. People were talking about Britain going bankrupt or collapsing into dictatorship. There was a national nervous breakdown
