You're going back to a point I already responded to as if repeating it makes it so. But definition 2 derives from 18th and early 19th century racialist views. And more to the point, ANTIsemitism has only ever been a description of Jew-hatred—except when used by people denying such hatred exists.

Does Bein say that Steinschneider was a Zionist, particularly in 1860? Or why he used the term antisemitism?

Back to my original point—that antisemitism refers only to Jew-hatred (though upon more reading that seems like a slower development)—what's the relevance of Jewish (or Zionist) coinage?

I know that and I'm not sure why you're telling me that. It was you who said that "antisemitism" was coined by a Zionist. I said it was coined/popularized by German antisemites.

(Also that the name of the semitic language group is only tangentially related to the word antisemitism.)

And who is the Zionist you credit with the coinage?

The Wikipedia entry on antisemitism includes:
Beginning in 1879, the compound word antisemitismus was first used in print in Germany as a "scientific-sounding term" for Judenhass (lit. 'Jew-hatred'), and it has since been used to refer to anti-Jewish sentiment alone.

I'm 72 years old and latkes have been around as long as I can remember, so that's enough to make it a tradition in my book. As the bubbes used to say, "Ess, ess, mein kindt!"

Whether those who fought or those who accommodated are more responsible for Judaism's survival is another conversation.

I share your view on Gaza. But the term "antisemitism" was coined in the 19th century to specifically describe hatred of Jews as a people (differentiating hatred of Jews on religious grounds). It derived from the name of the language group but does not refer to the different peoples that spoke them.

I came to Michigan State from New York and was told Vernors was ginger ale. Not in my book!

Sorry to hear that '26 is out, but we're a little late getting the invitations going. Glad you're interested, though, and I'll talk with our library hosts about making a commitment to you and Dean so I can contact Author Village earlier in the year. Happy holidays!

Just watched it. Clearly not a movie made for me. I'd much rather see more of the Supergirl who appeared in the Flash movie

I got bored with and didn't finish the comics series it's apparently based on, so I'm not holding out much hope.

True, Israelis are not allowed in certain parts of the West Bank (Area A under the Oslo Accords, with dense Palestinian populations), but that's by order of the Israeli government, which erected the signs Fine mentions. I, an American Jew, had no trouble going to Ramallah.

Quick thought from an abortion rights supporter: "Pro-life" folks who make exceptions for rape and incest are hypocrites. By their logic, the conditions of conception should make no difference in the value of the fetus. Noem gets credit for consistency if nothing else. Or rather, AND nothing else.

I love Ed Barretto's work! Thought I'd also post Toyman cover, this one by Paris Cullins.

Blue Devil and Amethyst (and their supporting casts, of course).
