Aaron, my wife and I were in Port-Au-Prince the day he said those words. I was so ashamed. He specifically mentioned Haiti, among other countries. That memory is seared in my brain.

I had to say goodbye to Jasper two weeks ago. We had him for 13 years. I was despondent. He was the best doggo.

On past travels to Haiti and Rwanda for humanitarian work, the ubiquitous USAID project signs made me feel proud of my country. I don’t know that feeling anymore.
