Counting down the 1000 greatest rock and roll songs of all time and making other lists of my favorite tunes and albums. Rock and roll is my favorite genre but I truly like a little bit of everything, from classical and cumbia to honky-tonk and highlife.
There’s a big gulf between who Bari expected her opposition to be and who it actually is, and I am not sure she is ready to change any of her priors about it yet

I don't think I have seen even one 00s-themed nostalgia party, for whatever reason the decade doesn't seem to lend itself to the same nostalgia as the 50-80s, I don't even think the 90s even gets much of that kind of explicit nostalgia by comparison to the preceding decades.

I mean, I wonder where these Indiana Republicans have been, and how much they have most likely been on board with everything Trump did and said up to now, but it is heartening that people on Trump's side are starting to have normal reactions to his awfulness.

It’s interesting that Trump’s poll numbers are tanking despite the best efforts of most of the media to pretend he’s a completely different president, only so much lipstick they can put on such a piggy

When's the last time a Time article got passed around that wasn't related to its Person of the Year gimmick? It might have been all the way back when that kind of person was photocopying articles for their loved ones to read.

Limp Bizkit had its first Billboard alternative hit in over 20 years this year with a song that kinda sounds like it could have been from their heyday. I guess my fellow Millennials are hitting mid-life crisis territory? Shame about that title though.

Also Turnstile seems to have pulled off the rock band sellout move in 2025? Like, yeah, it is pretty cheesy, but as someone who wishes there was more mainstream rock music to still get excited about I dig it. This song was a Billboard alt rock number one! Good for them.

Will admit that my first impression of Addison Rae was tainted by her being from the influencer world. Decidedly not my scene, at all. But I can't deny the sheer ninetiesness of this bitchin' pop tune. I hear a lot of 90s Madonna in it. Video kinda clashes with my mental image of the song though.

A lot of arguments criticizing left-NIMBYism blocking housing through environmentalism, historic preservation and the like (often deservedly so), comparatively little explanation of right-NIMBYism that's basically "we don't want those people to turn our neighborhood into the city we are afraid of."

A well-worn genre but: imagine if Obama tried to rename American football or even called it American as a qualifier, we'd still be hearing about how it reflects what a wuss he is from the right

The whole thing with this popularist stuff is that the GOP disproves it on the regular. Not moderate, no respect for democracy or will of people who disagree with them, etc. US elections are still a jump ball anyway. Does Bazelon only wag his finger in one direction like the rest of them?

I don't understand the playing field here. Republicans disrepect democracy, don't listen to public opinion, impose their values and worldview, and still win.
So Dems can't do those things and win, and Republicans can? Why the asymmetry? Or is he saying the GOP doesn't do those things and Dems do?
