Our glass cutting workshop was excellent. We had a very patient and practiced teacher.

A few more photos from #TokyoGameMarket. This is only one of the wings of tightly packed half-tables. My own #ゲムマ戦利品 haul was limited to what I could carry in my back pack. Huge thanks to @dnlnwmn.bsky.social and @xitoliv.bsky.social for being my guides around the cavernous space. ❤️

I wish I could show you photos from the floor of Tokyo Game Market but the photo policy is pretty tight. I got permission to take a picture of this 3d apartment building game though!

The vibes at Mermaid Cafe are immaculate. Red bean paste croissants, an eccentric victorian decor, and mid-century doo-wop oldies on the PA.

We walked around Ueno, then Akihabara to visit the game shop Yellow Submarine. Tokyo Game Market has a printed catalog available for purchase so I needed to study and translate what was going to be available. Spotted a @gdofnc.bsky.social game on the shelves! Art Society by Mitch Wallace!

The water lilies and maple leaves were blushing into autumn colors just outside the Shitamachi Museum. You get a good view of the pond from the third floor. We also walked over the Sumida River Bridge for a nice photo opp.

More photos from the Shitamachi Museum.

Next stop was Shitamachi Museum that preserves a mid-century home you can walk through. Second floor has a timeline of the area's cycle of reconstruction across the 1800-1900s.

We randomly walked by the Tokyo Origami Museum, a small storefront gallery of origami sculptures from the local club of enthusiasts. The fourth picture is Megan admiring an itty bitty crane perched on a needle point. You have to use a magnifying glass to see it!

Activity 1: Workshop at Ito Bindery! A mother and son taught glue binding, debossing letters, and stamping Kanji. They were SO kind with us. We were buzzing with warm feelings all day afterwards. My book will be a journal of this trip and an album of train station stamps! ❤️ ito-bindery.co.jp

About half way through the trip so I want to write down a few memories while they're fresh. Day 1 our priority was a lovely latte and breakfast from Berth Cafe. The barista was a former exchange student in Iowa, of all places. I had an oat milk latte and the best cheese toast of my life.

Stopping at a cafe first. Had to doodle this little guy we saw on the way. He was so happy to have a perfectly sized box that fit him as a hat.

A full day of plane travel was fine. Service was kind and helpful.

The lines at customs seemed long, but we prepared in advance so it was speedy and efficient.

Navigating Tokyo's competing train fiefdoms during weekday rush hour? THAT was stressful.

But then we had noodles so it was worth it.

LAKE OF SOULS
Ann Leckie

Well I thought I was going to finish this on the plane, but I couldn't wait. It was so nice to enjoy small truffles from the Radch and Raven Tower settings. Extraordinary range between honorable tragedy and goofball farce. Highly recommended.

Months ago I drew a capybara on this blank whiteboard at my gym. It's been gathering more doodles ever since.

Designer Vasilis Marmatakis center-aligns one letter of each credit with the font Churchward Roundsquare. The treatment makes you want to read the column as a word, but it's just random letters. Very suggestive of the characters' paranoid mindset.
